Ark opens.
1969
A so-called “psychedelic nightclub,” The Ark is located initially at 15 Lansdowne Street. It is replaced at the site by a succession of subsequent clubs – the Boston Tea Party, Boston-Boston, The Metro, and Citi (1988), then two clubs, Avalon and Axis (1992). They close on September 30, 2007. The building is renovated and becomes the second home of the House of Blues (which had opened in Harvard Square in 1992 and closed in 2003) and opens with a reunion concert by the J. Geils Band on February 19, 2009.
